To understand the Brexit workforce impact, onefourzero has analysed the desirability of the UK as a destination for migrants to seek work. Using data taken from social media conversations and online search, we can see a number of patterns emerging in the months after the referendum with regard to demand from specific countries. We examined the behaviour of migrants from Poland, as an example case study, and found a decline in migrants’ desirability for particular jobs and sectors in the UK.
- Construction demand has increased by 22% over the last 12-month period.
- Retail/Leisure demand has increased by 39% over the same 12-month period.
- However, within the health and social care sector, particularly nursing and homecare, there appears to be a gradual decrease over the last 12 months. Since June 2016, there has been a decrease of 17%.
